Paines Creek Beach Bicycle Route

Parking:        Nickerson State Park main parking lot on Route 6A.

Miles           Route

1.5             West on rail trail to Thad. Ellis Road. No road sign.
                  Signs to art gallery, right, and Reefs Cafe, left.

1.7             North to Main Street (Route 6A) at Foster Square.
                  WALK across Main Street to north side.

2.0             West on Main Street to Foster Road.  (Ride carefully;
                   this is Route 6A which is narrow and has heavy traffic.)

2.6             Northwest on Foster Road to Point of Rocks Road and
                  to visit a small, secluded beach.

3.3             Southwest on Point of Rocks Road to Main Street.

3.9             West on Main Street to Lower Road, past Brewster
                  Store.  (A side trip to the bay on Breakwater Road
                  is worth a visit; adds about a half-mile)

5.4             West on Lower Road to Paines Creek Road.

5.9             North on Paines Creek Road to beach.

6.5             Reverse to Route 6A.
                  WALK carefully across Route 6A.

7.0             South on Paines Creek Road to Stony Brook Road.

7.6             Northeast on Stony Brook Road to Route 6A.

7.7             East on Route 6A to Tubman Road.

10.7            East on Tubman Road to Route 137.

10.8            East on Route 137 to rail trail.

13.4            East on rail trail to parking lot at Nickerson Park.

Alternate Route

The ride may be done in reverse from above, clockwise from Route 137,
rejoining the rail trail at Thad Ellis Road.
 

Back Roads Bicycle Route (suitable for mountain bikes only)

Parking:        Nickerson State Park parking lot on Route 6A in
                      Brewster.

Miles           Route

1.5             South on Deer Park Road through Nickerson Park to
                  the red vehicle gate on Windswept Road.

1.8             South on Windswept Road to Cliff Pond Road; west
                  to Millstone Road.

3.0             Southwest on Millstone Road to Long Pond Road
                 (Route 137).  Ride carefully; the road is narrow
                 and the traffic is fast.

3.2             Northwest on Long Pond Road to Crowells Bog Road
                 on the west side.

5.7             Southwest on Crowells Bog Road to the town landing;
                 west to the rail trail.  Ride slowly on the portion
                 of the road that is clay and gravel.

6.0             North on the rail trail to Great Fields Road on the
                 west side of Harwich Road (Route 124).

8.0             Northwest on Great Fields Road to Stony Brook Road,
                 then north briefly to Main Street (Route 6A).
                 Ride slowly on the clay and gravel portion.

8.5             WALK across Main Street to Briar Lane directly
                 opposite.  North on Briar Lane to Lower Road.

9.3             East on Lower Road to Main Street again.

10.0            East on Main Street to Point of Rocks Road on the
                   north side.  Ride carefully; Main Street is narrow
                   and heavily travelled.

10.7            North on Point of Rocks Road to a small, secluded
                   town beach.  Wonderful bay views; great for a swim.

11.3            Southeast at the fork to Foster Road, southeast and
                   south to Main Street.

11.6            East on Main Street to Thad. Ellis Road, opposite
                   Foster Square.

11.9            South on Thad. Ellis Road to the rail trail.

13.5            East on the rail trail to Nickerson State Park.  
 
 

Long Pond Circular Bicycle Route

Parking:        Nickerson State Park main parking lot on Route 6A.

Miles           Route

5.5             Ride southwest on the Cape Cod Rail Trail to the
                  Pleasant Lake General Store at Route 124.

5.6             South on Route 124 (Harwich Road) to Long Pond Drive.

8.4             East on Long Pond Drive to Long Pond Road (Route 137).

10.0            Northwest on Long Pond Road to Millstone Road.
                   Ride carefully, high speed traffic.

11.2            Northeast on Millstone Road to Cliff Pond Road.
                   Ride carefully, high speed traffic.

11.5            East on Cliff Pond Road to Windswept Road, then
                   north and east on Windswept Road to Deer Park Road in
                   Nickerson Park, on the other side of the gate.

13.0            North on Deer Park Road to parking lot.
