NORTH PAMET, TRURO

Description: Hike north through Pamet hills and woodlands with striking ocean views

Place to Meet: Meet at parking lot, North Pamet Road, Truro

Driving/Parking Directions:  From Orleans, turn off Rt. 6 at Pamet sign. Take first left onto North Pamet Road. Follow to end of road and park in area next to Hostel parking lot (the small one in the wooded area).

Beach/Parking/ Resident permit may be required during the Summer months

Start: (note: underlined words have links to pictures)

  • Walk back down street ~1/4 mile to ‘fire road #8’ on right

  • Turn right and go to Steel Cranberry house, continue on trail behind house

  • Go to intersection (here, right returns to parking lot) go straight

  • then quick left into woods on smaller path

  • Left at next intersection. Where the main trail continues straight, you take a smaller trail to the left.
  • Left when at the split rail fence, on Archie Ball Trail.  Continue past 3 houses on left.

  • Right at Old Kings Highway (OKH) trail goes up.  Signs at intersection.

  • Straight at private drive sign and continue on OKH

  • At Union Field Rd on left, turn right (north) between 2 cement posts onto small path, go about a mile.  (OKH goes straight to Higgins Hollow Rd)

  • At end, turn left at parking lot sign. Go to paved road

  • Right to Ball House overlook then return (go straight past parking lot sign)

  • Right at gate to FAA navagation dome with pointed cone shaped roof.  This is Green Hill.

  • To the right is a great ocean view; then return down paved slope

  • Left at gate to retrace steps

  • Right at Ball House overlook sign, don’t take overlook path.  Paved road to dirt here

  • Straight at ‘parking lot 1.1 mi’ sign (we saw this sign on way up)

  • Left on small trail with low limbs to ocean overlook, then return

  • Left at main trail (down)

  • Left at main trail (south)

  • Go to intersection and go straight toward parking lot

  • Right at ‘Trail’ sign, follow trail on gravel filled path with 6x6 erosion control beams

  • Left at ‘parking lot’ sign at tee and go to main path

  • After a short distance turn Left to East Bearberry Hill, then return

  • Left at main trail

  • Return to parking lot
